I got a traffic ticket, shouldn't I just pay the fine? 

Paying the fine on a Traffic Ticket issued under the Highway Traffic Act, is  admitting your guilt and automatically convicts you of that charge. That can seriously affect your right to drive in Ontario and other jurisdictions. (There are reciprocal agreements in place with all Provinces and most of  the United States.) Regardless of the jurisdiction in which you receive the ticket to which you plead guilty or are convicted, it will reflect on your driver’s licence.  Your insurance rates could also be affected as well as your work, since some employers require a clean driving abstract.

If you receive a ticket and do not take any action within 30 days, you will be automatically convicted, and   demerit points may be registered against your driver’s licence, and you may not be allowed to drive for a certain time.  You wont be able to renew your driver's license until you pay the fine.

Why should you get professional help for a Traffic ticket?

In Traffic Court, you do not have to prove innocence, all that is required is for you to create enough doubt. Since mistakes are often made either in issuing the ticket or in the Officer's testimony, only experts familiar with the Court system will be able to catch these fatal errors. 

In most cases, you are not required to attend Court, although you will always have the option to do so.

Do we always win?  Certainly not,  no one does, despite claims to the contrary.

Charges for Impaired Driving, Reckless Driving and other more serious offences, are dealt with only by Lawyers experienced in those areas.

Points to ponder:

Getting a Speeding Ticket even if you were caught on Radar or Laser, does not automatically mean you are Guilty.

Careless driving without a fine attached;

A Careless Driving ticket that does not have a fine amount listed, is an automatic summons to court.  This means that you do not have the option of pleading guilty by paying the fine.  In this case you must go to the court to answer the charge.  If you are convicted of Careless Driving you could face fines of up to $1000.00, Jail time of up to 6 months, and a driver’s licence suspension of up to two years.

However, unlike speeding offences, Careless Driving is not an absolute liability offence. In other words, if you took all possible steps to avoid it but eventually could not, you cannot be convicted of careless driving.
